LED RGB Car Badges Explained

LED RGB car badges take the familiar idea of a custom badge and add controllable illumination behind it. Instead of a single static finish, you get a badge that can glow across millions of colours, run animated effects and be tuned from your phone. They sit at the more involved end of the custom badge world, so it is worth understanding exactly what you are buying before you fit one.

This guide covers what LED RGB car badges actually are, how the colour and app control works, the waterproofing and 12V install, the effects on offer, the all-important question of lighting legality on UK roads, and the warranty that backs them. Every spec here reflects our own LED RGB line.

What are LED RGB car badges?

An LED RGB car badge is a precision-engineered aftermarket badge with addressable RGB LEDs built in behind the face. The 'RGB' simply means each LED can mix red, green and blue light, which lets the badge reproduce a huge colour range rather than one fixed shade. Our LED RGB badges cover 16M+ colours.

Like the rest of our range, they are made from automotive-grade ABS, injection-moulded with a UV-resistant finish, and come with 3M VHB tape pre-applied for mounting. They are premium aftermarket accessories, precision-engineered to manufacturer specifications, and are not manufactured by or affiliated with any car maker. The LED RGB badges are a specific product line within our wider catalogue of 100+ badges across 15+ car brands.

  • 16M+ colours via addressable RGB LEDs
  • Automotive-grade ABS with a UV-resistant finish
  • 3M VHB tape pre-applied for mounting
  • Aftermarket accessory, not an OEM or official part

16M colours, Bluetooth and WLED app control

The colour and behaviour of the badge are controlled over Bluetooth using the WLED firmware. WLED is a well-established open lighting platform, so rather than being locked to a handful of presets you get genuine control from your phone: pick any colour from the 16M+ range, set brightness, and choose from 100+ effects.

Because control runs through the WLED app, you can save your preferred colours and effects and recall them easily. It keeps the badge flexible long after fitting, so you are not stuck with whatever look you chose on day one.

  • Bluetooth control via WLED firmware
  • 16M+ colours and 100+ built-in effects
  • Adjustable brightness and saveable presets

IP67 waterproofing and 12V plug-and-play install

The badges are rated IP67, meaning they are sealed against dust and short-term water immersion, which is what you want from anything mounted on the exterior of a car exposed to rain and washing.

Power is 12V plug-and-play, so the badge is designed to connect to a standard 12V supply without bespoke wiring or modification. As with any electrical accessory, take care choosing where to draw power and route the cable tidily. The 3M VHB tape is pre-applied, so once the surface is clean and the wiring is sorted, the badge itself mounts in the usual way.

  • IP67 rated against dust and water
  • 12V plug-and-play power
  • 3M VHB tape pre-applied for mounting

Lighting legality on UK roads

This is the part to read carefully. UK lighting rules are strict about what colours and positions of light are permitted on a vehicle used on the road. Certain colours and certain mounting positions may not be road legal, regardless of how the badge is sold. As a general rule of thumb, white light to the front and red to the rear are tightly regulated, and other colours or flashing effects can fall foul of the rules.

Because of this, treat an illuminated LED RGB badge as display or auxiliary use unless you have confirmed that your specific colour, position and usage comply with current regulations. If in doubt, keep the lighting for shows, track or off-road display and check the rules before running it illuminated on a public road. The badge functions perfectly well as a standard badge with the lighting switched off.

  • Some colours and positions are not road legal
  • Front/rear light colours are tightly regulated
  • Treat illumination as display/auxiliary use unless confirmed compliant
  • Confirm current UK rules before lighting on a public road

Warranty, dispatch and what to expect

LED RGB badges carry a 2-year warranty, which is longer than the 3-month quality guarantee on our standard badges and reflects the added electronics. The warranty covers the LED badge as set out in our terms.

Frequently asked questions

How many colours and effects do LED RGB car badges have?

They cover 16M+ colours and include 100+ effects, all controlled over Bluetooth using the WLED app, so you can set any colour, adjust brightness and switch effects from your phone.

Are LED RGB car badges waterproof?

Yes. They are rated IP67, which seals them against dust and short-term water immersion, making them suitable for exterior mounting where they face rain and washing.

Are illuminated LED RGB badges legal on UK roads?

Not necessarily. UK rules restrict the colours and positions of lights on road-going vehicles, so certain colours or mounting positions may not be road legal. Treat the lighting as display or auxiliary use and confirm your specific setup complies before running it illuminated on a public road.

How is the badge powered and fitted?

It is 12V plug-and-play, designed to connect to a standard 12V supply, and the 3M VHB tape is pre-applied so the badge mounts to a clean surface once the wiring is sorted.

What warranty comes with LED RGB badges?

LED RGB badges carry a 2-year warranty covering the LED badge, longer than the 3-month quality guarantee on our standard badges. Defective items are replaced free if reported within 7 days with photos.
